The Port of Kalama has tremendous transportation advantages. At nearly any point on the Port property there is immediate access to Interstate 5. Burlington Northern/Santa Fe and Union Pacific mainline rail provide on-site access throughout the Port and the International deep-draft Columbia River allows for deep-draft shipping.
Interstate 5 parallels the Port property. There are three Interstate 5 interchanges that place all Port property within one mile of an interchange. Interstate 5 connects with the major east-west Interstate 84 approximately 30 miles south of Port. Interstate 90, the northerly east-west freeway, connects with Interstate 5 approximately 120 miles from the Port.
The mainline of both the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe and Union Pacific railroads is adjacent to Port property. The Union Pacific operates under a joint trackage agreement with the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe. The rail is at grade along the Columbia River Gorge and does not necessitate crossing the Cascade Mountain passes.
Portland International Airport (PDX) is 32 miles south of the Port of Kalama. The time from Kalama to PDX is approximately 40 minutes.
